What's your opinion on interracial relationships? More specifically white male/black female.
Whatever makes you happy makes you happy. I’m not against interracial relationships
I would be weary of the men that thing of Black women as an exotic play toy. Ex: “I’ve never been with a Black woman” types. They typically don’t mean any good to you as a person and look at you as a conquest. :[
I was/still am a creative child, I’m an only child but i have tons of cousins. My father is one of 16 and I’m closer to my 2nd cousins, it you can’t figure out lol I have a really big family.
As a child i was naturally out going, friendly, bubbly, and creative. I’m still all these things now I would say.
But kids didn’t really like me I used to get bullied pretty bad up until 4th when we moved and i went to a different school. I was in-between being girly and being tomboyish, like i preferred to wear hoodies and sweatpants. I also was the kid to bring and/or know about new animes, videos games, and books. So a lot of the girls in my school did not get along with me.
When i got to middle school i started to develop better friendships with all genders. I was still out going but I was starting my goth/punk phase. In this phase I really was not fond of being Black. Not one of my proudest moments.I was definitely self loathing.
Like I said i was creative so i drew alot, played instruments(viola for 8 yrs), sang, did theater, and wrote stories, songs and poetry.
Around Junior year i grew out of my goth/punk phase and realized i could enjoy many different things and be proud of who i was without being ashamed. Or put into categories, I also discovered that I enjoyed advocating for social justice. So i joined out ACTION group and gay-straight-alliance at our school.
Senior year was when i was most comfortable in my own skin and enjoyed the complexity of myself.
First of all, I adore your blog. I just watched the new Lily Allen video and have been sifting through the tags. There are obviously some very large issues with her video and what it means to feminism and especially women of color in feminism. taking into consideration that some of the dancers have taken to the internet defending Allen and the video, does that alter your distaste for it? I'm not defending her, just asking your opinion. Thank you so much!
I haven’t seen what the dancers said but to be honest with you, I respect their opinions but I still do not think very highly of Lily Allen. I know most people think Azaelia Banks started beef with her over twitter but Lily Allen said something wild to her like 6 months ago and someone tweeted to Banks
but regardless of that she dressed up her husband’s penis in Blackface and tweeted to Banks. There’s alot of twisted racial sexism in that very picture i don’t even want to get into it. I don’t respect her for that at all.
I still have a strong distaste for the video because how it was done, how she was using it, and the actual images done in the video. Regardless of what she says, racism is majority not overt it’s done quietly and has many micro-aggressions attached to it.
I've recently started contouring and highlighting. I've tried it on top of my foundation and under it. I was wondering how you do it? Also, I have hyperpigmentation from acne where one would usually contour but it doesn't all line up together obviously. Do you have any tips for that? xo
Yes! When you have hyper pigmentation ( i do too) it’s best to use a color corrector, a color corrector will be the opposite color of the hyper pigmentation ( I’m assuming a dark brown patches) and it cancels out the dark color. You should try a peach, salmon or coral color corrector. Make sure to blend with a latex sponge and then put your foundation or concealer over it. It will literally disappear the discoloration.
As for your contouring it’s best to put it on top of your foundation and color correcting, you want to put it in areas that are concave to your face or recede, sometimes the contour powder and/or bronzer you can be using maybe to light or very very sheer. Using a dark brown eyeshadow is very possible.
When you put it on use an angled brush and a small fluffy brush. The angled brush you would use to put the powder on and the fluffy brush you would use to blend out. Make sure to blend well.
help, my hair is probably a 3c and I am afraid to do anything fancy with it. i truly am in love with its beauty, but i am looking for the hairstyle that will work for me. now, all i do is just bun it or tie a side braid. its pretty boring
Hello anon I’m sorry I’m answering you so late.
Your hair has tons of hairstyles, maybe trying soft romantic curls and forming that into a updo. You could also do flat twists or flat twist the front into a high ponytail and smaller twists down the back.
Here are a few videos that may help you with options! Some of them are not 3c but i think will help translate over to something you’re looking for.
If you get bored and want more experimentation. Putting in braids and twist extensions might be an option! You can do it as big or long or colorful. Wigs definitely an option and if you can get the hang of it making your own opens doors for things you can do. Here’s a really cool tutorial on yarn twists/ Faux Locs/ Yarn wraps which are SO GORGEOUS UGHHH
Eyeshadow anon again! Just wanted to let you know that I went and bought a cheap primer for now (waiting for that paycheck haha), but it really has made a difference! Not just with the eyeshadow but with my foundation, concealer etc. everything just... looks better. I'm planning on getting an eye primer (and a better general one) soon, and the brush you recommended. Thank you so so much for all the recommendations! x
You’re so welcome anon! it’s really crazy how much of a difference a primer will make for everything you have!! Good luck :3
Hi! So I love your blog and I was reading your intro post on makeup & was wondering if there was any way you could list particular makeups for specific things. Like a certain bronzer, or a certain makeup for contouring; if that makes sense. I'm trying to learn how to do this but it's kind of confusing to get started. Any more tips or advice would be great! :)
I completely understand bronzing and contouring can be really confusing. I’m going to list two then you link you to two videos that will help when picking out your bronzers or contours.
So bronzing usually is a little darker to your shade or a bit warmer on the skin with some shimmer to it. Because bronzing can sometimes be sheer or not as powerful like highlight or contours alot of times people will use bronzers for a natural look or to add a hint off a point on the face near the cheeks.
One really good bronzer for woc would be Queen Latifah Cover girl collection bronzer, definitely a favorite. It comes in three shades.
on the other end of the spectrum contouring is usually done with much darker powders and are put into the parts that sink away from your face or you want to sink away like the hallows of your cheeks. Alot of times people use bronzers and contours interchangeably because people will buy bronzers MUCH darker and use it for contouring. You can do this there is nothing wrong with that.
A really good bronzing powder for WOC would be BH cosmetics contour + blush set
You can also use really dark eyeshadows or dark bronzers.
Bronzers also can come in really natural shades that are not darker to your skin tone but add a nice note of color that creates dimesion to the skin. They can also come in pinkish colors that look like blushes (might as well be lol) usually the colored ones like this are very sheer
so really bronzing/contouring are interchangeable now-a-days it’s not uncommon to find out when someone says bronzing they mean contouring.
Do you have any tips on lightening darker lips? Because I find it looks weird whenever I wear lighter lipstick colors, and I find if I try and do a "no makeup" makeup look, my dark lips always seem to bring down the entire look.
To create a flat surface for lip color to go onto without the tint of your lips interferring use a little bit of concealer (not alot you want it somewhat tacky not slick) on your lips and apply a lipliner around and fill in the inside of your lips. Or you can buy a lip primer. I do want to say though darker lips are gorgeous embrace them as you want to. <3
